About Johanka
Originally from Slovakia, I’ve lived in Hungary, Ireland, and Oregon before settling in Vancouver. These experiences have shaped my openness to diverse worldviews and the understanding that multiple truths can coexist.
I identify as a Slovakian, white, cisgender, able-bodied woman. Growing up in communist and post-communist Slovakia, I had the privilege of completing three master’s degrees. My Slovakian heritage influences my honest, straightforward communication style—I’m transparent about where people stand with me. I love humour and finding moments of shared laughter.
I’ve been a registered social worker in British Columbia since 2016, working in primary care since 2020. In 2023, I began my yoga teacher training in the Iyengar tradition.
I’m passionate about personal and professional growth and deeply appreciate life’s unexpected learning opportunities. Outside work and yoga, you’ll find me in nature—running, swimming, or spending time with family.
“The wound is the place where the light enters you.”
